Summary

Join us and help make a real difference to people, places, and the environment.

Our Operations Field Teams are at the heart of what we do. As professional operators of our river and coastal assets, we carry out essential maintenance and improvement work, including vegetation management, tree works, minor construction, and refurbishment. We also run operational exercises and deploy equipment during incidents.

As a Lead Team Member, you’ll play a key role in guiding and supporting your team across a designated patch. You’ll lead on daily tasks, ensure safe and effective delivery, and act as a role model in professional behaviour and technical skill. Coaching and mentoring will be central to your work, helping Team Members grow their capabilities—whether on-site, through workbooks, or as part of apprenticeship programmes.

If you’re motivated by hands‑on outdoor work, enjoy supporting others, and want to help protect communities and the environment, we’d love to hear from you.

Responding to incidents is a core part of our work. In this role, you’ll take on an incident responsibility, helping us respond to flooding, pollution, or other environmental events. Full training, support, and flexible working arrangements will be provided, and the role may attract additional payment.

The team

The East Hampshire Field Operations Team is a dispersed team of 12 within SSD Field Operations, including Specialist Team Members, Lead Team Members and Team Members. Working closely with the West Hampshire team, we use our strong construction and maintenance skills to operate and maintain river and coastal assets across a wide area. We also provide a reliable 24/7 response to flooding and pollution, protecting communities and the environment.

Experience/skills required

In your capability-based answers please demonstrate your ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage others to consider diversity issues in their work.

We’re looking for someone with proven skills and experience in maintenance and construction, ideally with knowledge of working under CDM regulations and a strong understanding of health and safety risk.

You should be confident delivering high‑quality results in a fast‑paced environment and resolving problems quickly.

Strong organisational skills and the ability to work well under pressure are vital. We’re seeking a positive, proactive self‑starter who builds strong relationships and communicates effectively with people at all levels.

You’ll need to be comfortable using computers and managing data. Good verbal communication skills are essential for sharing information, reporting work, and contributing to a safe team environment.

You’ll have a range of development opportunities and appropriate training will be provided.
