Summary
Your Role
As Development Control Manager (Maternity Cover), you will take strategic responsibility for the day‑to‑day operation of the Development Management team, ensuring the service continues to perform at a high standard throughout the maternity leave period.
Lead and Inspire
- Manage, mentor, and support the Development Management team.
- Maintain strong performance and ensure timely processing of planning applications.
Drive High‑Quality Decision‑Making
- Provide expert advice on complex and strategic planning applications.
- Ensure decisions are robust, defensible, and aligned with planning policy and legislation.
Strengthen Service Delivery
- Lead on service improvements and process efficiencies.
- Support the delivery of the Council’s wider planning and corporate priorities.
Represent the Council
- Present at Planning Committee and other key forums.
- Engage effectively with applicants, agents, elected members, and community stakeholders.
Ensure Compliance and Quality
- Oversee enforcement priorities and uphold planning control.
- Maintain high professional and customer service standards.

What You’ll Bring
- Significant experience in Development Management, including major and complex applications.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a professional team.
- Excellent knowledge of planning legislation, policy, and best practice.
- Confident communication and negotiation skills.
- A degree in a relevant discipline and RTPI membership (or eligibility).
