Summary

The overall purpose of theLung Cancer Screening(LCS)Programme is to enable the early detection of lung cancer to save lives.This role will be fundamental in the delivery and running of a high quality and effectiveLCSservice.TheLCSprogrammehas been implemented throughoutEngland,in areas identified with high disease prevalence,where significant impact can be made from the recognition of early-stage lung cancer & offering curative treatment. TheCentralResponsible Assessor (RA)facilitatesthe clinical flow of theLCSprogrammeparticipants.ThecentralRA oversees that all participants follow the pathways outlined in the national and local SOPs, including any participants that have an abnormality reported on their CT scan.They support the delivery of the nationaloptimallung cancer pathway within SWAG trusts for screeningidentifiedpatients. Theyareresponsible forthe leadership of the process to select and assess the individual cases for entry into the programme, the Lung Health Check(LHC), and the risk assessment for lung cancer. The successful candidate will act as a conduit between theLCSLHC nurses,supplier responsible assessor,local medical and nursing teams across both primary and secondary care,SWAGLCSteam,and screening participants.Theywill work closely under the supervision of the Clinical Director and alongside keyclinicalstakeholders to ensure the delivery and successful implementation of the screening programme and coordinate the onward care and management of all actionableLCSfindings. TheCentralRAwill hold clinical oversight and responsibility to communicate complex findings and ensure timely coordination of patients on the screening pathway and contribute to the setting up of both virtual and attendedLCSSRM meetings working closely with the Respiratory Teams, Responsible Clinicians, and Responsible Radiologists across multiple trusts who will provide onward care and management ofLCSactionable findings.Theywill oversee and ensure the smooth running of multiple Screening Review Meetings (SRMs) andwill besupported bytheLCSSRM coordinatorand suppliers responsible assessor. They willfacilitatea robustand efficientassurance and governance processes which meet the requirements of the nationalLCSteam.Theywillbe responsible forcompleting all onward referrals from the SRM as dictated by the clinical leads and will be the key point of contact between the third-party delivery partners, secondary care, screeningparticipantsand Cancer AllianceLCSprogramme team. This is a pivotal clinical leadership role;the CentralRAwill provide clinical leadership working with patients, clinicians, and other partners, to implement the expansionoflung cancer screening acrossSWAG.It is an integral part of the overall programme governance structure with specific responsibility for the safety and operational aspects of the process to select and assess the individual cases for entry into the programme. They will continually oversee andmonitorthe clinical programme, the assessment and management of participants and provide day to day leadership of the clinical service.
