Location: Oldham
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am - 3pm
Pay Rate: £115 per day
Contract: February 2026, option of temp to perm
About the role:
Educato are currently recruiting a dedicated and compassionate ASD Specialist Learning Support Assistant to work in an Alternative Provision setting in Oldham, working with a small number of secondary school aged learners (11-16 years; Years 7-11) who find it difficult to cope and maintain their place within a mainstream school environment.
Learners will have social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and specific learning difficulties.
Key Responsibilities:
· To support learners with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) by planning, preparing and delivering structured learning and social-communication activities under an agreed system of supervision.
· To use specialist knowledge and strategies to reduce barriers to engagement, anxiety, sensory overload and transitions that impact autistic learners.
· To provide one-to-one and group support to young people with ASD, including mentoring, behaviour regulation and Emotional Based School Avoidance (EBSA) intervention.
· Supporting students with emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies and creating a calm, safe and supportive learning environment.
· Working closely with teachers and wider support teams to meet individual academic and wellbeing needs.
The Ideal Candidate:
· Experience working with children or young people with ASD, SEMH, anxiety or mental health needs.
· Patient, resilient and empathetic approach.
· Strong communication and teamwork skills.
· A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners.
· Relevant SEN/A SD qualifications or training (desirable but not essential).
Requirements:
· Enhanced DBS check registered on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
· Ability to provide a minimum of two professional references which cover the last 24 months.
· Be happy to complete safeguarding and prevent training.
