Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Cleaner/Closer to join our team. This role involves ensuring the cleanliness and security of premises at the end of the day, providing excellent customer service, and maintaining a professional appearance. The ideal candidate will be reliable, detail-oriented, and possess strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients and team members. This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where attention to detail and customer satisfaction are paramount.

Key Responsibilities

Cleaning Duties:

• Clean and maintain all areas of the community centre, including halls, meeting rooms, toilets, kitchen facilities, corridors, and entrances.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors as appropriate.
• Clean and disinfect toilets, sinks, kitchen surfaces, and high-touch areas.
• Empty bins and dispose of waste in accordance with site procedures.
• Replenish consumables such as soap, paper towels, and toilet rolls.
• Report any cleaning supply shortages to the Line Manager.
• Assist with basic maintenance tasks as needed to ensure facilities are well-maintained.

Closing & Security Duties:

• Ensure all rooms are vacated at the end of hire periods.
• Check hired spaces are left clean and tidy.
• Secure the building by locking all doors and windows.
• Ensure fire exits are properly secured (while maintaining compliance with fire safety regulations).
• Switch off lights and non-essential electrical equipment.
• Set alarms where applicable.

Health & Safety:

• Adhere to Health & Safety regulations at all times.
• Use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and in accordance with COSHH guidelines.
• Report hazards, maintenance issues, vandalism, or damage to the Line Manager.
• Respond appropriately to minor emergencies (e.g. spillages), and contact emergency services when required.

Person Specification

Essential:

• Reliable and punctual.
• Ability to work independently.
• Good understanding of cleaning practices and hygiene standards.
• Awareness of health and safety procedures.
• Trustworthy and responsible with keys and security access.
• Satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Desirable:

• Previous cleaning experience.
• Experience working in a community or public building environment.
• Basic knowledge of alarm systems.
• Strong customer service skills are essential to create a welcoming atmosphere during closing operations.
• Excellent communication skills are necessary to coordinate with team members and report any issues efficiently. This role is ideal for individuals who are organised, dependable, and committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and security while delivering excellent customer service.

Other Information:

• The role requires flexibility, including evening and occasional weekend working depending on bookings.
• Employment is subject to receipt of a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check.
• Training will be provided where necessary.
