We need a leader who:
• Leads with Integrity: Someone who does the right thing for students and staff, even when it isn't the easy thing.
• Has a Vision for Excellence: You will have a proven track record of school improvement and the ability to inspire a high-performing team. You will be a leader who believes that a student's background should never be a barrier to their success and will continue to drive our "no excuses" culture.

Further details about the role
Are You Ready to Lead a Successful School That Knows Exactly Who It Is?
Following the successful tenure of our current Headteacher, the Governors of Longbenton High School are seeking an inspirational, resilient, and forward-thinking leader to take our school into its next chapter.
This is a rare opportunity to lead a school that is not only Ofsted "Good" (2022) but is also on an upward trajectory. Having moved from "Requires Improvement" to "Good" under the current leadership, Longbenton High School is now a highly respected, heavily oversubscribed school of choice, known for its "warm/strict" ethos, its modern campus, and its unwavering commitment to social mobility. Longbenton High School is a place of high expectations and profound individual care. We are a thriving community that believes in nurturing each individual such that every young person—regardless of their starting point—receives an education that opens doors and builds character.
Why Lead Longbenton High School?
You will be joining us at a time of genuine stability and pride. Our school is characterised by:
• A Solid Foundation: You will not be ‘fixing’ a school; you will be evolving a successful one with a clear vision and a dedicated staff body.
• A Culture of Character: We live by our KIDMAP values (Kindness, Integrity, Determination, Manners, Ambition, Positivity). These are not just posters on the wall; they define the expectations of and conduct by our 1,000+ students and 100+ staff.
• Exceptional Students: Our young people are curious, diverse, and proud of their school. They deserve a leader who is visible, approachable, and ambitious for them.
• Sixth Form: You will be taking over at a pivotal moment. September 2026 marks the first full year of our fully independent Sixth Form, following the successful transition from a shared partnership. We are already seeing 21% A*–A grades and students progressing to Oxbridge and Medicine.
• A Collaborative Culture: We have a staff team that is ‘all in.’ We value professional autonomy, mutual responsibility, evidence-informed practice, and a sensible approach to workload.
• Strong Community Ties: We are a true community school, supported by a committed Governing Body and a parent group that values the stability we provide.
Visit dates: There will be an opportunity to visit the school on either Monday 23rd February between 3-5pm or Thursday 26th February between 9-11am. To arrange a visit please contact Jannica Jigmo Chanco via recruitment@longbenton.org.uk
Commitment to safeguarding
Longbenton High School is committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
