Summary
Applicants are invited to apply for the position of Clinical Research Fellow in IBD / Gastroenterology, based at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Imperial College London.
The appointee will be involved in a research project under the supervision of Dr. James Alexander and Prof. Nick Powell. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with an interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) research and they will be expected to register for a higher degree (MD or PhD).
A degree in Medicine (MBBS or equivalent) and full MRCP or equivalent is essential, as is full General Medical Council registration. You will have minimum experience as an ST4 in Gastroenterology.
The research project is fully funded by a grant from GlaxoSmithKline to deliver a multicentre interventional trial of the recombinant zoster vaccine (Shingrix) in patients with IBD. The trial aims to determine if pausing IBD medication during immunisation results in enhanced immunological responses to vaccination. The appointee will support the Imperial Clinical Trials Unit with patient recruitment and lead on laboratory analysis of antibody and cell-mediated immunity. The position will provide opportunities and training to employ cutting edge translational science, including gut microbiome and metabolomic platforms, to understand variability in vaccination responses. And the project will also leverage UK-wide collaborative networks to explore the critical issue of vaccination hesitancy in patients with IBD. It is anticipated that the results of the project will be presented at national and international meetings, and published in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.
