Crynodeb

We are seeking an ambitious individual to join our well respected and supportive Internal Audit Team, so if you are looking to progress your career in audit, this could be the ideal opportunity for you.

In this role, you will work across all of the Council's range of services, critically assessing systems and processes to ensure objectives are achieved. This is a great opportunity to develop relations with business areas throughout the organisation and be a source of trusted advice.

As part of our risk based compliance programme you will focus on visiting schools and other Council and public sector partners' sites across Staffordshire – offering variety, challenge and the chance to make a real impact.

You will have an office base in Stafford, and we currently operate hybrid working, so there is flexibility for you to work from home, subject to service requirements.

Main Responsibilities

You will be required to:

  • Liaise with auditees to plan and prepare for audits.
  • Develop audit work programmes in consultation with auditees and Audit Managers.
  • Complete internal audits across Staffordshire, including site visits.
  • Document audit findings and prepare high‑quality reports.
  • Provide clear and constructive feedback to auditees, both verbally and in writing.
  • Support the prevention and detection of fraud through proactive exercises and investigations.
  • Offer advice on risk and controls in response to ad hoc enquiries, working closely with your Audit colleagues.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for you to:

  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain detailed information to stakeholders at all levels
  • Demonstrate excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Work logically and methodically, taking initiative to meet critical deadlines
  • Be motivated to develop a sound understanding of internal audit principles and modern audit techniques

Interviews will be held during the week commencing 9 March 2026.
