Summary
For further information please refer to the job description and personal specification To complete the first level assessment of the patients needs to gain an understanding of the physiological, psycho-social, spiritual and cultural needs of patients undergoing diagnostic tests for suspected cancer as well as those diagnosed with cancer and to develop a positive, realistic and supportive attitude to ensure that the needs of the patient and family are met. This will include: Counterchecking patients vital signs, blood results, patient body surface area, chemotherapy prescription and consent before administration of treatment. Educating patients on their treatment protocol such as indications and side effects. Ensuring necessary medication and follow up appointments are obtained. To promote a patient focused multidisciplinary approach to care in collaboration with carers, other health care professionals and external agencies. To plan, document, deliver and evaluate evidence-based nursing care for patients in a responsible and efficient way. To exercise clinical judgment and decision making about patient needs in terms of long term goals or plans. To provide clinical leadership of the junior nursing and support workers that is motivating, supportive and sets clear boundaries resulting in high quality safe patient care. To support a clinical learning environment that enables nursing staff to develop professionally and promotes the use of evidence in practice.1.8.
