A charming independent hotel, is seeking an experienced and passionate Head Chef to lead the busy kitchen team.
Salary £40k per annum
Nestled in the heart of Aviemore in the breathtaking Cairngorms National Park, this venue delivers genuine Scottish Highland hospitality year-round. The lively lounge bar hosts live entertainment most evenings, while our relaxed restaurant serves hearty, flavourful dishes from breakfast through to dinner — featuring a main menu, kids' options, seniors' specials, and a focus on generous portions, traditional favourites, and fresh Highland ingredients. They are the go-to spot for locals, skiers, walkers, families, adventurers, and anyone seeking that warm Scottish welcome.
About the Role As Head Chef, you'll take full ownership of the kitchen, driving quality, creativity, and consistency across all food service periods in our all-day dining operation. This is a hands-on leadership role in a thriving, independent hotel where your menus help create memorable guest experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
-Lead and inspire the kitchen brigade, including recruitment, training, rostering, and performance management
-Oversee menu development, costing, and execution for breakfast, lunch, dinner, specials, and events
-Maintain exceptional food quality, presentation, and consistency while controlling costs and waste
-Ensure full compliance with health & safety, food hygiene, and licensing standards (HACCP etc.)
-Work closely with the General Manager and front-of-house team to maximise guest satisfaction and revenue opportunities
-Innovate seasonally with local Scottish produce and adapt to peak tourist seasons (winter skiing, summer outdoor activities)
-Manage stock, suppliers, and kitchen operations efficiently in a high-volume environment
What We're Looking For:
-Proven experience as a Head Chef (or strong Sous Chef ready to step up) in a hotel, pub, or busy restaurant setting
-Strong culinary skills with a passion for hearty, Scottish-influenced cuisine and fresh, quality ingredients
-Excellent leadership, communication, and team motivation abilities
-Sound knowledge of food cost control, menu engineering, and health & safety regulations
-Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, seasonal environment with flexibility for shifts, weekends, and bank holidays
-Right to work in the UK
What We Offer:
-Starting salary of £40,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
-Tips / service charge share
-Live-in accommodation option available (highly desirable for this Highland location)
-Employee discounts on food, beverage, and accommodation
-Free parking and meals on duty
-Supportive team environment in one of Scotland's most stunning locations
-Opportunities for career growth in a successful independent hotel
-Staff events, incentives, and the chance to enjoy the Cairngorms lifestyle
If you're a creative, organised leader who loves delivering great food with a Highland twist and wants to head up the kitchen in this iconic Aviemore venue, we'd love to hear from you!
