About the School

Located in Headingley, Leeds, Ormston School opened with its first cohort of learners in September 2024 and offers a safe and supportive environment for pupils aged 5 to 18. Our aim is to provide a learning environment where young people can thrive, feel supported and safe, and leave school happy with relevant experiences and outcomes that enable them to contribute to the wider community.

Role Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching allocated areas of the secondary curriculum to small bespoke class groups of up to 6 pupils, with the support of a Teaching Assistant. You will be required to plan, prepare and present lessons that cater for the needs of the full ability range.

You will be required to:

  • Plan and teach well-structured lessons to assigned classes, following the school's plans, curriculum and schemes of work
  • Assess, monitor, record and report on the learning needs, progress and achievements of assigned pupils, making accurate and productive use of assessment
  • Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of pupils
  • Set high standards which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils
  • Promote good progress outcomes
  • Demonstrate secure subject and curriculum knowledge
  • Participate in arrangements for preparing learners for external tests
  • Teach across the KS3/KS4 curriculum
  • Adapt learning to meet the needs of learners with SEND

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Degree
  • Successful teaching experience
  • Experience in delivering qualifications up to GCSE
  • Preferable experience in delivering Humanities, PE and/or vocational subject areas
  • Experience teaching KS3/KS4
  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum
  • Knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies
  • Good understanding of how children learn
  • Ability to adapt teaching to meet pupils' needs
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with pupils
  • Knowledge and understanding of child protection and safeguarding practices and protocols
  • Knowledge of effective behaviour management strategies
  • Good ICT skills, particularly using ICT to support learning
