Summary
The post holder will work in the lung cancer screening (LCS) service and will bemainly basedat the mobile vans, Unipart house,assistingthe radiographic and nursing staff in the smooth running of theservice.A significant part of this role will require telephone screening of participants toascertaintheir risk score.Cross site working will berequiredacross Oxfordshire with the ability to have some regular at home working.The LCS service offers a 5 day a week service for targeted participants that meet the criteria of currently or previously smoked aged between 55 and 74 years of age. We offeran initialtelephone appointment with a further face to face appointment with a low dose CT scan ifindicated. As we serve the whole county, we are a mobile service moving around the county a couple of times a year. The post holder will work closely with all staff, in particular, Nurses and radiographers toassistwith delivering a high standard of care. The post holder must meet the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974), the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations, the Ionising Radiation Regulations and Data Protection Act (1984) and anysubsequentlegislation. JOB PROFILE Introduce and welcome patients in the waiting area, confirming their identity according to the Trust Policy. To be comfortable working with a range of different patients. To exercise discretion andmaintainpatient confidentiality. Maintain the patients dignity and privacy at all times. Todemonstrategood communicationskills when dealing with patients, relatives and members of themultidisciplinaryteam, utilising sensitivity,empathyand the ability to manage conflict. Act as a patients escort taking them to the changing rooms, preparing them for the examination. Toassistwith patient moving and handling and equipment moving, using correct methods and equipment asrequired(as per Manual Handling Policy). To undertakemandatorytraining as required by the Trust, to develop and increase skills, to improve the service to the public. Responsible for theaccuratebooking in of patients, in addition to amending data whereappropriate, using the Radiology Information System (RIS), the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) and Nelson + software. To cover staff annual leave/absence which may require cross site working. Assist Radiographers performing low dose CT scans. Explaining to patients the preparatory requirementsregardingundressing/dressing andassistingthe patients when this is necessary. Inputtingand amendingdata on CRIS. Help tomaintainhigh standardsof cleanliness of equipment and accessories, in addition to keeping examination rooms and changing area clean,tidyand supplied with linen Assistingin stock rotation of supplies. Assistingwith the preparation of the examination rooms. To be aware of andcomply withthe relevant Ionising Radiation Protection Regulations and Local Rules (IRR 17 and IR(ME)R 17). Tomaintaina professional appearance and attitude at all times, working together and supporting other members of the team in a polite and helpful manner. In addition to the key areas listed, staffare required tocarry out such other duties as maybe reasonablyrequired. To be aware of andcomply withTrust policies,proceduresand legal requirements including Health & Safety regulations, COSHH, Manual Handling Regulations, Data Protection Act. Contributing to the departments Quality Assurance and Audit Programme. Participating in all relevant in-house training. Communicate equipment faults. Assistin and supervise training of new LCSAssistants asrequired. Act as a first point of contact on the telephone and by email for patients, relatives, GPs and any other relevant agencies, answering or re-directing queriesin a timely manner, asappropriate. Support with telephone screening asrequired, and after undergoingappropriate training, toidentifylung cancerrisk scores of participants. Use telephone,emailand letters to communicate professionally with participants to arrange appointments and follow up non attendants. Provide primary administrative support to all clinical staff, and all participants in the program, including diary administration, correspondence support and other administrative duties asrequired. Provide a supporting role to theNurseManager andInformation Support Officerto help ensure the efficient administration of the service. Providerosteringandclinic planning, managing DNAs and rescheduling whenrequired. Attenddepartmental meetings, training and your annual appraisal asrequiredto ensure that youmaintainan up-to-date working knowledge of service and trust procedures Work within Standard Operating Procedures
