Trainee Estimator – Full Training in Estimating & Bid Writing (Choose Your Path)
Location: Corby
Salary: £25,000–£35,000 + 10% bonus + progression to vehicle & fuel card or car allowance
About the Company
This long‑established UK roofing contractor has over 45 years of experience delivering commercial and industrial roofing solutions nationwide. Based at their Corby head office, with additional locations across the UK, the business specialises in refurbishment and flat‑roofing schemes within Education, Healthcare, Commercial, Industrial and Public Sector environments.
The Role
This is an excellent opportunity to join a friendly, supportive and fast‑growing team, with company turnover increasing from £10m to £15m in the last three years. You will receive full training across both Estimating and Bid Writing, giving you exposure to the technical, commercial and written sides of the business. Once you have gained experience in both areas, you will choose the pathway that best suits your strengths, whether that is progressing as an Estimator or developing into a Bid Writer. The office environment is relaxed, down‑to‑earth and full of team spirit, offering rapid progression for someone ambitious, reliable and eager to learn.
What You Will Be Doing
Your training in Estimating and Pre‑Construction will involve supporting quantity take‑offs and measurements, helping prepare tender documents, pricing schedules and cost plans, requesting and comparing supplier and subcontractor quotations, and assisting with scope summaries, clarifications and value‑engineering options. You will gain experience working on roofing and refurbishment tenders ranging from £50k to £3m.
Your Bid Writing development will include drafting PQQ responses and written quality submissions, gathering technical content from internal teams, maintaining bid resources such as case studies, CVs and method statements, and using AI tools to turn bullet points into polished written content.
You will also support the business development function by helping maintain client relationships, assisting with calls, meetings and networking events, attending occasional site visits, and helping qualify new opportunities and manage the tender pipeline.
What You Will Receive
You will start on a salary between £25,000 and £35,000, with the potential to receive a vehicle and fuel card or car allowance after six months. The role includes a 10% discretionary bonus, casual dress, a relaxed culture, flexibility, excellent progression opportunities and regular social events.
Who This Suits
This role is ideal for someone ambitious, eager to learn and reliable, with strong Maths skills and good IT ability, including basic Excel. You may already have, or be working towards, a construction‑related qualification such as a BTEC, HNC, HND, T‑Level or apprenticeship, or you may have gained some practical construction experience. You should be looking for a long‑term career with rapid progression, and a stable CV is preferred.
Hours & Location
This is a full‑time, office‑based role in Corby. Working hours are Monday to Thursday, 08:30 to 17:00, and Friday, 08:30 to 16:00, with a flexible one‑hour lunch break.
