About Us

Routes Healthcare is a leading complex care provider — we are a care company, not an agency. We're real people who put individual healthcare needs first. We support people in their own homes, providing specialist 1-2-1 care for clients with complex health needs.

About the Role

We are looking for a warm, patient, and experienced Support Worker to provide 1-2-1 support to a young person living in the Ainsdale area who has an acquired brain injury and developmental delay. This is a hands-on, relationship-based role supporting the client to build routines, develop independence, and enjoy life both at home and in the community.

You'll become a trusted, familiar figure — someone who provides structure, encouragement, and calm, consistent support.

What You'll Be Doing

After school (term time):

• Supporting with daily routines, homework, personal care, and activities of daily living within the home
• Providing structure and positive boundaries to encourage good habits and behaviours
• Providing a calm, focused 1-2-1 presence

Saturdays and school holidays:

• Supporting with community-based activities — getting out and about, building social skills, and having fun
• Developing independence through activities of daily living
• Driving the client to activities and outings safely

What You Need to Know About This Role

This is a 1-2-1 support role working with a young person who requires a high level of supervision. You'll need patience, energy, and the ability to provide calm, consistent support with clear boundaries. You'll be working within a family environment, so a sensitive and professional approach is essential.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

• Female (genuine occupational requirement under the Equality Act 2010)
• Experience working with children and young people
• Brain injury knowledge or experience — an understanding of Global Developmental Delay and the challenges it presents
• Good enabling skills — you're there to build her confidence and independence, not do everything for her
• A calm, sensitive, and empathetic nature — you'll need to stay composed and consistent, even when things are challenging
• Ability to set and maintain positive boundaries in a supportive way
• The right to work in the UK without needing employer support
• Reliable and able to commit to the regular shift pattern

Desirable:

• A full valid UK driving licence and access to a car
• Experience supporting young people with developmental delay or neurological conditions
• Experience working within family environments
• Understanding of positive behaviour support strategies
• NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent

What We Offer

• Specialist training and ongoing clinical support through the Routes Academy programme
• Dedicated clinical on-call team available 24/7
• Regular supervision and competency assessments
• Wellbeing and mental health support
• Staff referral scheme with generous incentives (up to £250 per referral)
• You'll work alongside employed Routes care workers only — we don't use agency staff

Ready to Make a Difference?

This is a rewarding role for someone who wants to make a genuine difference to a young person's life. If you have the experience, the patience, and the heart for it, we'd love to hear from you.
