Summary

Job Title: Early Years Classroom Teacher

Responsible to: Headteacher & Governing Body

Responsible for: carrying out the duties & responsibilities of a teacher as detailed in the Pay & Conditions of Service document 2013 & to meet the requirements of the Teaching Standards.

Grade: Main scale

Job Purpose:

 To help lead the school in policies & practices of continuous school improvement & staff development

 To be an effective & reflective classroom teacher able to demonstrate & share good practice

 To work as part of the nursery school team

 To effectively involve parents in their children’s learning

 To provide the highest quality care & learning opportunities for all the children.

Teaching & Learning

 To play an effective role in the development of high-quality teaching & learning

 To plan, organise & deliver a broad & balanced child centred curriculum within the Early Years Foundation Stage using a variety of teaching methods to address the differing needs of the children within the school

 To organise staff, students & volunteers, & lead the daily/weekly planning to enable the children to learn & develop

 To be responsible for monitoring the progress & wellbeing of the children

 To assess, record & review the progress of individual children, & to compile records of achievement

 To report to parents & professionals on a regular basis

 To establish positive relationships with parents & work with other professional in developing a range of support, e.g. home visits, home-school diaries, meetings

 To share & support the school’s responsibility to provide & maintain opportunities for the children’s personal & academic growth

 To facilitate inclusion in the main stream nursery provision, events & activities wherever possible

 To be an excellent role model for all staff

 To interact with children’s learning sensitively & to effectively scaffold the learning of new skills & knowledge, & to help develop their characteristics of effective learning

Leadership

 To be line manager for the Early Years practitioners & Teaching Assistants in your Home Base

 To play an active part in school development

 To embrace the school’s ethos of inclusion

 To contribute to the professional development of staff

 To take an active part in the development of the School Improvement Plan, its implementation & evaluating it

Safeguarding

 To be fully aware of & understand the duties & responsibilities arising from the Children Act 2004 & Working Together in relation to child protection & safeguarding children & young people as this applies the role of the adult in the school.

To carry out any other duties as deemed necessary to the post under the direction of the headteacher.
