Your role:

As a Highways and Streetworks Inspector, you will be one of the key officers responsible for implementing our asset management approach to managing and maintaining our highway infrastructure and network management services. In particular you will carry out scheduled routine highway safety inspections and investigate enquiries (including highway enforcement, GMRAPS permits, claims and preparation of court evidence) relating to the inspection, maintenance and safety of the highway. Assist in the organisation, monitoring, reporting and production of the annual highway and footway condition surveys. You will also update and maintain our asset records and oversee works being carried out on site associated with highway maintenance.

You will play a key role in the delivery of the aspirations and objectives set out in the Highway Asset Management Policy, Strategy and Plan, which aims to embed asset management as our core approach to managing our highway infrastructure. You will contribute to the Council’s Deal for the Future, in helping deliver growth and great places, with well-maintained highway infrastructure and developing services that support building self-reliance.

About you:

You will need excellent leadership and organisational skills with experience of working in a highway or industry related field of activity. Be able to carry out scheduled inspections of the highway network and other Council infrastructure or assets as required including recording inspection results and issuing reports to relevant departments as appropriate.

Ability to work with limited supervision on site, good communication skills and be able to effectively communicate with Council employees, elected members, residents and members of the public. The ability to embrace new technologies to support the continuous improvement and future needs of the service.

About us:

Wigan Council has been voted ‘Overall Council of the Year’ at the APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) Awards. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or 'unbroken' between the supporting organisations.

The Progress with Unity plan is a place movement for change for the next decade, bringing a new era for Wigan Borough. It draws on the strengths of our individual organisations, recognising that together we can achieve much more for our communities by delivering on our 2 place missions; create fair opportunities for all children, families, residents and businesses and make our towns and neighbourhoods flourish for those who live and work in them.

This is an excellent opportunity for anyone seeking to work in a truly collaborative, empowering, and multi-disciplinary team where we work collaboratively and supportively to get things done, within an organisation which has strong political and managerial leadership and real ambition to improve outcomes for residents
