Summary
We are a UKAS and IBMS accredited department serving Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with multiple laboratories covering many clinical specialties. We provide a comprehensive range of Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratory services and specialty diagnostic testing and reference work for leukaemia, haemostasis, thrombosis and haemoglobinopathies.
We are looking for a Band 5 Biomedical Scientist. You will have Haematology and Transfusion experience having worked in this laboratory environment as an MLA or trainee BMS whilst completing your registration portfolio to achieve HCP registration. You will be required to work a shift pattern which includes earlies, lates, weekends and nights. For the right candidate we may consider offering a rota with predominately night shifts. The department has an excellent reputation of supporting staff with training and completion of the specialist portfolio and will encourage your professional development. Within the role you will be given the opportunity for personal and continued professional development.You may be required to work at all Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust sites, dependent on the needs of the service. Staff are required to work shifts according to the needs of the service.
The post holder will act without direct supervision as a registered Biomedical Scientist providing the Haematology & Blood Transfusion diagnostic and therapeutic service to patients and clients as an aid to clinical diagnosis.
They will undertake diagnostic analysis of biological samples and perform complex/specialist investigations that must be performed accurately to avoid direct adverse affects on the patient. Using a wide range of equipment from simple manual equipment to highly sophisticated analysers and techniques that include specialised diagnostic testing referred from other hospitals.
They will need to exercise judgement and interpretation to validate results and generate laboratory reports in accordance with policies and protocols and perform further tests to aid diagnosis where necessary, alerting clinicians when results are abnormal. A high level of accuracy and attention to detail is essential.
