Demonstrate specialist skills and knowledge through expert evidence based nursing practice Maintain a high level profile in the clinical area, acting as a role model for other health care professionals Develop written protocols and operational policy to support the autonomous practice of a specialist nurse conducting nurse led clinics. Develop a deep understanding and broad knowledge of colorectal cancer and apply to patient assessment Participate in advanced communication skills while listening and talking to patients and their significant relationships. Utilise other members of the MDT when appropriate to facilitate comprehensive holistic assessment and care to patients To provide professional clinical leadership and expertise to other nursing staff. Conduct periodic audits for reporting as required nationally and within the Trust Education/Leadership Promote patient/carer independence through the provision of relevant teaching and support. Participate in and organise study days/education programmes. Develop resource and teaching packs for use by patients and/or staff in the clinical and educational setting. Proactively involve patients and public to comment on the service and influence relevant changes Ensure the provision of appropriate written information is available to patients and staff. Participate in the Trusts ongoing educational programmes. Liaise with other charities, organisations and agencies dedicated to colorectal cancer, LARS and Lynch syndrome. Promote bowel cancer awareness by participating in campaigns Research/Audit/ Quality Utilise up-to-date research findings in the delivery of patient care and to disseminate this knowledge to all members of the multidisciplinary team. Participate as appropriate in relevant research studies and audit findings and disseminate these findings to clinical practice as appropriate in order to develop best practice. Identify opportunities for nursing research within own specialist area and carry out nursing research appropriate to the speciality. Regularly audit service including eliciting the views of patients, carers and professionals ensuring patient feedback is incorporated into developments in the service. Attend relevant departmental and Directorate and network meetings relating to clinical governance and to contribute to the clinical governance agenda. Management Liaise with other members of the team to ensure that there is an efficient use of resources, human, financial and time. Ensure that there is a safe and acceptable environment for clients/patient. Act as a patient/staff advocate through the application of ethical, legal and professional knowledge and skills. Undertake other duties as appropriate to the grade at the request of the line manager and/ or Trust that may be required from time to time. Collaboration/ Consultancy Work in a collaborative manner with all members of the multidisciplinary team and other health care professionals recognising the unique contribution of other disciplines and appropriately referring.
