Summary

1. To be responsible for the completion and self-management of daily clinic lists of routine and more specialised lung function tests in the lung function laboratory. This should include performing oximetry, spirometry, reversibility testing, transfer factor, body plethysmography, mouth pressures, sniff pressures, six minute walking test, Mannitol challenge, hypoxic challenge. 2. Be able and familiar to use many types and makes of spirometer 3. To ensure all equipment is calibrated at the appropriate time and maintain good hygiene in both the lung function and applicable equipment within the chest clinic. 4. To assist in the provision of routine and more specialised sleep studies. 5. When required, to set up and download routine and more specialised sleep studies, including screening oximetry, TOSCATM,NOXand ApneaLink, validate multi-channel sleep studies for review of senior physiologist or senior medic. 6. To perform accurate and reproducible measurements in accordance with the standards and protocols of lung function, which are in line with national standards 7. To check and advise patients on good inhaler technique. 8. Help troubleshoot technical problems relating to lung function and sleep equipment in absence of senior staff. 9. To provide support for any research undertaken within the lung function and sleep departments as directed by line manager. 10. Maintain strict patient and departmental confidentiality at all times. 11. Comply with any other duties that the chief clinical physiologist may delegate.
