Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and organised Commis Chef to join our professional kitchen team in Goldsmiths. This is an excellent opportunity for a culinary professional who is passionate about food preparation and eager to develop their skills within a dynamic, collaborative catering environment. You will work alongside experienced chefs, contributing to the delivery of high-quality cuisine whilst maintaining the highest standards of food safety and presentation.
- Assist in food preparation, including washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning ingredients with precision and efficiency - Prepare and maintain mise en place to support smooth kitchen operations during service - Support senior chefs with cooking, plating, and presentation of dishes to exacting standards - Maintain exemplary standards of kitchen cleanliness, organisation, and hygiene at all times
- Follow all food safety, allergen control, and health and safety procedures meticulously - Contribute to special event catering and function support as required - Develop culinary techniques and knowledge under the guidance of experienced kitchen staff - Communicate effectively with team members to ensure seamless coordination during service - Demonstrate flexibility and resilience in a fast-paced kitchen environment - Take responsibility for personal professional development and continuous skill improvement
Qualifications
**Required Skills and Attributes:** - A genuine passion for food, cooking, and culinary excellence - Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality and consistency - Excellent understanding of food hygiene, safety practices, and allergen control procedures - Reliable team player with a positive, flexible, and collaborative attitude - Good organisational and time-keeping abilities
- Physical stamina and capability to work standing for extended periods - Effective communication and people skills - Willingness to learn, develop, and take on feedback constructively **Desirable Experience and Qualifications:**
- Previous experience working in a professional kitchen or catering environment - Relevant culinary training or qualification (such as NVQ Level 1 or 2 in Professional Cookery) - Experience in a high-profile catering, hospitality, or education setting - Basic knife skills and food preparation techniques - Familiarity with kitchen equipment and food preparation methods **Domain Expertise:** - Knowledge of food safety standards and best practice in professional kitchens is advantageous
