Summary

Head of Facilities Management

HMP Northumberland

We’re seeking an experienced and commercially astute Head of FM to lead Facilities Management services at HMP Northumberland.

This is a senior leadership role with full accountability for ensuring the prison estate remains secure, compliant, operationally effective and fit for purpose. You’ll lead the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance, lifecycle programmes, statutory compliance and improvement projects within a complex custodial environment.

The Role

As Head of FM, you will:

  • Lead all hard and soft FM services across the site

  • Ensure full contractual and statutory compliance, including ISO 9001 & 14001

  • Oversee lifecycle and CAPEX programmes, ensuring delivery to plan and budget

  • Manage departmental budgets, forecasts and financial performance

  • Act as the senior FM point of contact for the Prison Director and key stakeholders

  • Drive performance, compliance, safety and continuous improvement

  • Lead, develop and motivate a multidisciplinary FM team

This is a visible, hands-on leadership role where standards, security and operational resilience are critical.

About You

You’ll be an experienced senior FM professional with:

  • Proven leadership experience in a complex or regulated environment

  • Strong financial and commercial acumen

  • IOSH qualification and deep understanding of H&S legislation

  • Experience managing lifecycle, forward maintenance and asset replacement programmes

  • The ability to analyse issues, make sound decisions and drive improvement

  • A track record of building and leading high-performing teams

Desirable:

  • Technical qualification (HNC/ONC or equivalent)

  • Experience in a secure environment

  • Knowledge of CAFM systems
