Summary

This role is fixed term until 2026

All about the Role

In this role, you will provide comprehensive housing advice and practical support, with a strong emphasis on helping people maintain their existing accommodation wherever it is safe and suitable to do so.

This is a primarily community‑based role, working in the places where people are most at risk of homelessness. Some office‑based work is required. You will conduct home visits, offer mediation, and work creatively to resolve conflict and prevent homelessness at the earliest stage.

You will work closely with a range of partner agencies—including CAB, DWP, CGL, and other statutory and voluntary organisations—to provide tailored advice, strengthen early intervention, and reduce the need for households to enter statutory homelessness services.

The role also includes participation in the Emergency Duty rota, responding to same‑day homelessness approaches, carrying out robust enquiries, and taking all reasonable steps to prevent or relieve homelessness in line with the council's statutory duties under the Housing Act 1996 (Part 7) and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.

You will manage a varied caseload, adopting a strength‑based, trauma‑informed approach, building trust with individuals and families, and developing structured “Housing Help” plans to achieve positive and sustainable outcomes.
