Summary

SEMH Primary Class Teacher - Northampton

Location: Northamptonshire
Start Date: 05/01/2026
Contract: Full-Time

Are you a nurturing, resilient and inspiring teacher with a passion for supporting children who need consistent, compassionate guidance?

A specialist SEMH school in Northamptonshire is looking for an SEMH Primary Class Teacher to support pupils aged 4-11 with social, emotional and mental health needs. You'll create a stable, structured and emotionally safe learning environment that helps young learners build confidence, self-regulation and a love of learning.

Why This Role Matters

Primary-aged pupils with SEMH needs require patience, understanding, and a trauma‑informed approach. Every day, you'll use creativity, consistency, and relationship-building to help children manage emotions, develop resilience and engage positively with learning - often achieving breakthroughs that change their long-term educational journey.

Your Key Responsibilities

* Plan and deliver differentiated, nurturing lessons aligned with each child's developmental and emotional needs.
* Build strong, trusting relationships to help pupils feel safe, valued and understood.
* Lead a small primary class with the support of skilled behaviour mentors and teaching assistants.
* Implement and model emotional regulation strategies, visual timetables and structured routines.
* Support early social skills, communication, and positive behaviour through restorative practice.
* Monitor progress, complete assessments, and contribute to EHCP reviews and multi-agency meetings.

What We're Looking For

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) - primary experience is highly beneficial.
* Experience or interest in SEMH, nurture provision, or alternative education.
* Calm and consistent behaviour management skills grounded in empathy and reflection.
* Ability to de‑escalate situations and create predictable, supportive routines.
* Strong communication, teamwork and organisational skills.
* Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain).

What You'll Receive

* Competitive salary based on experience.
* Access to specialist SEMH CPD and training in trauma-informed practice.
* Support from an experienced leadership team and dedicated pastoral staff.
* Small class sizes with high adult support ratios.
* A positive, relationship-focused environment where staff wellbeing is prioritised.
