Overview We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic individual to join our team and support with day-to-day farm duties including but not limited to; relief milking, feeding, calf rearing, pig unit relief, tractor work and stock person duties. Experience working with robotic diary equipment would be advantageous. Awareness of essential health and safety measures, hygiene and animal welfare are essential.
The Role Working alongside our Head Herdsperson to support in all aspects of dairy production related to the college’s dairy herd, together with other cattle related tasks required by our expanding herd. The primary responsibility is for rearing young stock and undertaking relief milking on a rota basis / holiday cover. The role entails the supervision of students on farm duties and liaison with academic colleagues to maximise the educational opportunities.
The successful applicant will possess: • Certificate in forklift truck and tractor driving proficiency • Demonstrable competency in using tractor/ farm equipment • Demonstrable experience of working with cattle • Awareness of essential health and safety measures, hygiene and animal welfare • An affinity with working and developing young people • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with a wide range of people. • A “can-do” and flexible attitude.
