The Headteacher and Governors at Nicol Mere School are looking to employ a committed, reliable and highly motivated Lunchtime Welfare Teaching Assistant to join our outstanding team in supervising children on the school premises during the midday break, ensuring children eat their meals, play safely and behave responsibly. The position will initially be until the end of the Summer Term 2026, with a view to becoming permanent.
Ideally, the candidate will:
- Enjoy working with children and have a care for their welfare.
- Have some knowledge of children’s games and activities.
- Be engaging with the children.
- Have the ability to work under supervision and as a team member.
- Be able to communicate with and relate well to children and adults.
The main duties of the post will be:
- To supervise pupils during mid day break in the dining hall, toilets, classrooms and school premises.
- To assist individual pupils with eating if required and supporting all children to eat their lunchtime meal safely and respectfully.
- To clean spillages and ensure that tables are clean during meal times.
- To assist with first aid, sickness and other welfare issues.
- To be aware of the school’s behaviour policy, ensuring it is implemented during lunch break, to ensure good conduct and discipline is maintained and provide activities for “wet play”
- To supervise the children in the playground and dining hall, encouraging structured play and helping them to develop their social skills.
- Support the teachers and teaching assistants in ensuring calm and safe behaviours in the hall.
