The Royal Marsden Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a tertiary centre for cancer treatment and together with the Institute of Cancer Research forms the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe. The Department of Physics provides clinical services to the Trust and undertakes extensive basic and translational research.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and versatile physicist for this band 7 post in the Diagnostic Radiology Physics Group. The Group consists of seven scientists and is based at the Chelsea site, enjoying a pleasant working environment and good facilities. It provides medical physics expert and radiation protection services to The Royal Marsden and other Trusts.

The post holder will provide specialist radiological imaging knowledge to clinical researchers and support local radiation experts in the approval of clinical research studies. Depending on the candidate, the post holder will also support scientific and clinical research and development of x-ray imaging techniques.

We particularly welcome applications from early career researchers working in radiation imaging who want to transfer to a clinical physics environment, and we will support training to state registration as a clinical scientist. We will also consider applications from physicists who are state registered or are working towards state registration, have appropriate experience in diagnostic radiology physics and are conversant with radiological imaging techniques using ionising radiation.

1.1 Provide specialist radiological imaging knowledge to principal investigators and their team and commercial sponsors to facilitate the approval of clinical research studies. Support medical physics experts (MPEs) and clinical radiation experts (CREs) undertaking radiology reviews of these studies.

1.2 Participate in the provision and development of the group’s comprehensive diagnostic radiology physics including x-ray equipment testing, patient dosimetry, and radiation protection.

1.3 Support scientific and clinical research and development of x-ray imaging techniques.
