Nottingham Playhouse is seeking an exceptional Head of Lighting to lead our Lighting Department at an exciting moment in our
artistic journey.
Recently named The Stage Theatre of the Year 2025, we are a bold, ambitious producing theatre creating work that resonates locally
and nationally. From large-scale main-stage productions and co-productions to touring work, participation projects and major
events, lighting plays a vital role in how our stories are told — and this role sits at the heart of that creative process.
The role
As Head of Lighting, you will:
* Lead and inspire a skilled lighting team, including the Deputy Head of Lighting, technicians and casual staff
* Deliver outstanding lighting support across all productions, events, hires and community work
* Collaborate closely with directors, designers, production managers and visiting companies
* Oversee the safe, efficient and innovative operation of the Lighting Department
* Manage budgets, equipment, maintenance and future technical development
* Champion best practice in health & safety, sustainability and inclusive working
This is a hands-on senior role, combining leadership, technical excellence and creative collaboration.
ABOUT YOU
You’ll be an experienced lighting professional with:
* A strong track record in a producing theatre or similar large-scale environment
* Deep technical knowledge of theatre lighting systems and intelligent lighting
* Advanced programming and troubleshooting skills (ETC consoles and systems)
* Proven leadership, communication and decision-making abilities
* A collaborative, solutions-focused approach and a passion for supporting creative teams
