Job title: Level 3 Nursery Practitioner

We are looking for a level 3 nursery practitioner to fill a temporary position working 2/3 days per week.

Purpose of post
• To provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social care for all children in the setting.
• To ensure all children are safeguarded and their welfare and safety is promoted, following nursery procedures at all times.
• To give support to other team members throughout the setting.
• To work as part of a team in order to provide an enabling environment in which all individual children can play, learn and thrive.
• To provide effective planning, preparation and organisation according to the policies and procedures of the setting.

Both the Deputy and Nursery Manager.


Duties and responsibilities
• Operate a programme of activities that meet the individual needs and interests of children in your key group in conjunction with other team members.
• To keep records of your key children’s development and share this with parents, carers and other key workers in the child’s life.
• To follow the nursery safeguarding procedure to ensure all children are kept safe, well and secure.
• Work effectively as a team.
• Liaise with and support parents/ other family members.
• To attend occasional out of working hours training, monthly staff meetings, parent evenings, fundraising events etc.
• To be flexible within working practices of the setting. Be prepared to help where needed, including to undertake certain domestic jobs within the nursery, cleaning of equipment, domestic housework etc.
• Work alongside the management and staff team to ensure that the settings philosophy is fulfilled.
• Read, understand and adhere to all policies and procedures relevant to your role as deemed appropriate by management.
• Recording accidents and delivering first aid care where appropriate, reporting accidents to parents.
• Be constantly aware of the individual needs of all children.
• Ensure access into the setting is only granted to known persons.
• To respect confidentiality.

Specific practitioner duties
• The preparation and completion of activities to suit each individual child's stage of development and interests.
• To work effectively as a key person.
• To ensure that meal times are safe.
• To ensure good standards of safety, hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times.
• Provide personal care to children.
• Report any illness of children to management and provide appropriate care.
• To develop and maintain strong partnerships and communications with parents/carers to facilitate day-to-day caring and early learning needs.
• To ensure the provision of a high-quality inclusive environment.
• To be aware of the high profile of the nursery and to uphold its standards at all times, both inside and outside of working hours.
• To have excellent knowledge of children for whom you are responsible as a Key Person including their background, home life and next steps.
• To ensure parents / carers are well informed of their children’s progress.
• To attend and participate in parent / staff meetings and other meetings as may be relevant.
• To monitor children for the identification of possible special needs and discuss any concerns with the management and nominated SENCO.
• To comply with all OFSTED requirements and the EYFS guidelines
• To follow the settings procedures in an emergency situation ensuring that the safety and well- being of children is paramount at all times.
• To provide a warm and caring environment for the children whilst always having regards for their individual needs.
• To encourage the active participation of all children.
• To carry out any other occasional reasonable duties as requested by management.
It is the policy of the nursery to provide a secure and safe environment for all children. To ensure that children are never placed at risk while in the charge of the nursery staff, to revise staff awareness to child protection issues and procedures and ensure that confidentiality is always maintained.
