In line with our redeployment policy, we’ll prioritise applications from National Trust employees who are under formal notice of redundancy.
We’re looking for a Service Assistant to join us at Chartwell to help busy teams throughout our visitor operations.

Salary: £12.25 per hour
Contract/duration: Fixed Term Contract Ending 31st October 2026
Hours/working pattern/hours: This is a zero-hour contract, meaning we can’t guarantee a set number of hours each week. While we aim to provide a consistent work pattern, flexibility is needed as schedules may change based on business needs. We’ll try to give as much notice as possible. The role includes weekends and Bank Holidays but does not require evening or split shifts.

For this role, you’ll need to complete our online assessment instead of using a C.V. or online application form. This will help us understand more about your strengths and give you more information on the role.
What it's like to work here
Chartwell was the much-loved Churchill family home and the place from which Sir Winston drew inspiration from 1924 until the end of his life. Many of the rooms remain the same as when the Churchill family lived at Chartwell and today it is our job to share the stories of their lives here as well as care for this much-loved home and their cherished possessions. The team at Chartwell ensure that visitors have a great time at this property, and create events to delve further into the life of Sir Winston Churchill.
What you'll be doing
The core part of your job is to give vital and positive support to your colleagues, wherever you’re needed, with a focus on greeting and helping visitors.

No two days will be the same. You can expect to meet many different people and gain experience in different visitor areas. You’ll get involved in all kinds of tasks, including greeting visitors on arrival, supporting in the car park, selling tours, promoting events and helping with the growth of our second hand bookshop.

Most importantly, you’ll be talking to visitors, answering their questions and making sure they can find everything they need to enjoy their day.

Who we're looking for
We’d love to hear from you if you’re:

focused on giving great service to everyone you meet
a team player, but also happy to work on your own initiative
well-organised and adaptable
willing to learn new skills.
