Summary
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and competent Fire Door Engineer to carry out fire door installations, repairs, and inspections across residential apartment blocks. The ideal candidate will have strong practical knowledge of fire safety standards, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to ensure all fire doors meet current regulations and certification requirements.
A full UK driving licence is essential for this role due to travel between sites.
Key Responsibilities:
Fire Door Installation & Repairs
• Install new fire doors and fire-rated door sets in accordance with manufacturer specifications and relevant fire safety standards.
• Carry out repairs on existing fire doors, including replacement of hardware (locks, hinges, intumescent strips, closers, and smoke seals).
• Ensure all repairs restore or maintain the required fire resistance rating.
• Record all works completed, including materials used and compliance with manufacturer guidance.
Fire Door Inspections
• Conduct detailed fire door inspections in line with BS 8214, Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, and industry best practice.
• Identify non-compliances and provide clear recommendations for remedial works.
• Produce accurate inspection reports with photographic evidence.
• Advise property managers on required corrective actions to maintain fire safety compliance.
Health, Safety & Compliance
• Ensure all installations, repairs, and inspections are carried out in accordance with UK fire safety regulations.
• Maintain a strong understanding of fire door compliance, fire stopping principles, and relevant building regulations.
• Adhere to site safety rules and company procedures at all times.
• Report any significant risks or hazards identified during inspections.
Customer Service & Communication
• Liaise professionally with residents, property managers, and contractors.
• Explain inspection findings and required works in clear, easy-to-understand language.
• Provide updates on job progress and expected completion times.
• Uphold the highest standards of customer service and professionalism.
Tools, Equipment & Vehicle
• Maintain company tools and equipment to a high standard.
• Ensure the company vehicle is kept clean, safe, and roadworthy.
• Manage stock of fire door hardware and common materials.
Skills & Experience Required
• Proven experience as a Fire Door Engineer, Fire Door Fitter, or Fire Door Inspector.
• Fire door installation and fire door inspection skills are essential.
• Ability to assess door integrity, gaps, seals, hinges, closers, and hardware against required standards.
• Strong understanding of fire door certification, ratings, and compliance pathways.
• Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Full UK driving licence (required).
Desirable Qualifications
• FIRAS, FDIS, BM TRADA Q-Mark, or equivalent fire door competency certification.
• NVQ or City & Guilds in Carpentry, Joinery, or related trade.
• Health & safety qualifications (e.g., CSCS, Asbestos Awareness, Manual Handling).
• Experience working within residential blocks or property management environments.
