About Cygnet Bury

At Cygnet Hospital Bury we are focused on individual outcomes informed by evidence-based interventions and a multidisciplinary care pathway; we are home to specialist units for ongoing and intensive care and support. Alongside full educational provision for young people experiencing mental health problems, we also provide a unique, bilingual, secure environment for Deaf men and women and high dependency units that ensures a secure provision on the pathway to reintegration into the community.

We are looking for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to provide SLT input across our secure Deaf & MentalHealth services and consultative input and supervision of our SLTs working on the CAMHS services.

An understanding of speech, language and communication profiles associated with Mental Health needs is essential.

You will provide high quality assessment, plan and implement programmes of care in individual or group settings using evidence-based practice. You will provide specialist clinical advice to others regarding the management and care of patients with speech, language and communication needs and/or hearing impairment. Recognised skills in sign language is desirable but training in BSL can be provided.

We are able to consider applications from candidates wishing to work on a part-time basis but would be looking for a minimum of 3 days per week.

In this role you will:

  • Deliver a clinical service for a complex client group, using a range of skills and knowledge in assessment and intervention methods within a coherent framework

  • Produce reports reflecting specialist knowledge of a service-user needs and summarise the progress of clinical interventions Deliver clinical supervision to a small team of speech and language therapists

  • Maintain case notes in line with the standards of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and deliver a clinical service in line with the services’ Models of Care and company policies

  • Deliver staff teaching/training at site

  • Participate in the planning, development and evaluation of the Speech and Language Therapy service


We are looking for someone who has:

  • A Diploma/Degree in Speech and Language Therapy

  • Signing skills (desirable)

  • A Current State Registration Certificate with HCPC and membership of professional body

  • Knowledge and understanding of the client population

  • Good understanding of core Speech and LanguageTherapy skills and current best practice in Speech and Language Therapy
