Crynodeb
The purpose of the Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) and Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity (BWHC) TYA Cancer Youth Support Coordinator (YSC) is to work as part of the TYA cancer service to provide age appropriate activities and support to facilitate cognitive, social and emotional development and wellbeing of young people with cancer aged 16-24 years.
The role will involve working in adult and TYA specific clinical areas at the Primary Treatment Centre (PTC) in Bristol, as well as some non-hospital settings e.g. for peer support activities.
The post holder will work closely with TYA colleagues in the Designated Hospitals across the Southwest region, providing remote support and advice.
The post holder will work Monday to Friday, this may include some evenings.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
• The purpose of the TCT and BWHC TYA Cancer YSC role is to work as part of the TYA Cancer service to provide age appropriate support to young people 16-24 years with cancer, from the point of concern up to two years after their active treatment for cancer has ended.
• The role will involve working with a range of clinical and non-clinical teams at the PTC, TYA Designated Hospitals and in the community in the Southwest region.
• Taking appropriate referrals from clinical staff and identifying appropriate individual, group and peer-support activities to meet the needs of young people.
• This programme of work will be offered directly, digitally through activities to facilitate cognitive, social and emotional development of the young people, to their benefit and to inform regional and national practice and the work of Teenage Cancer Trust.
• You will be responsible for the effective collection, management and reporting of accurate and timely data to understand the support needs of young people and how your role fits into meeting these.
• Work alongside the other members of the TYA specialist team and wider Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT) in supporting TYA patients through their transition, into and out of the service.
• Contribute to the development and use of communication technologies to meet the needs of teenagers and young adults with cancer.
