Summary

If so, we are looking for an enthusiastic and hard working Centre Assistant to join our retail shop at our Minsmere Reserve’The main focus of the Centre Assistant role is to serve customers and ensure they have the best experience possible. You will also help maintain the retail displays, process deliveries, operate the till, and respond to visitor enquiries in a friendly and professional manner, with occasional cafe support.Working on a nature reserve means there’s always plenty going on and you’ll need to be prepared to deal with almost anything. You will receive full training and support on all aspects of RSPB Retail, which will enable you to drive sales, be a positive role model to the team, and an ambassador for the RSPB.About the RoleOur work in the visitor centre is planned via the use of rotas and will include weekend and bank holiday working. Full induction and training will be provided, with opportunities to learn about the running of a busy visitor centre and nature reserve operation.Our retail, cafe and reception operations are a crucial part of what we do here, encouraging visitors to explore the reserve, and giving them a great visitor experience.You will be a part of our retail team, helping to serve customers, and undertaking other duties typical of a busy shop.You will be able to communicate well with our visitors and offer excellent levels of customer care. Duties may occasionally include working with our meet and greet operation, welcoming visitors to the reserve, giving out information, or in the cafe during busy periods.Key Responsibilities:Ensuring the retail store is delivering the highest standard of customer care.Working with the retail management team to achieve financial targets and Key Performance Indicators to deliver against retail store goals.Ensure the retail store is commercially merchandised and stock levels are appropriate.Ensuring all retail admin, operating processes, security including cash handling and health and safety in the retail store adheres to RSPB procedures.Cover other areas on the visitor centre when requiredThe successful candidate must be available to work during the day (no evenings), and weekend and Bank Holiday working will be essential. This is a Permanent Part-Time role for a minimum of 5 hours per week, flexibility is important as additional hours will be available to meet the business need and cover annual leave.Essential Qualifications, Knowledge and SkillsGCSE Maths and English or equivalent.Computer literate.Enthusiastic approach to work.Excellent verbal and written communications skills.Ability to work as part of a team.Desirable qualifications, knowledge, skills, and experienceExperience of working at a retail environment/visitor attraction.Experience of working in a sales background.Till operation and payment handling.We are looking to conduct interviews for this position on 10th March 2026.
