About the RoleHays Education is supporting a warm and community‑focused primary school in Hunslet, Leeds, who are seeking an experienced Year 1 Teacher to join their team from after Easter until the end of the summer term. An earlier start date can be offered for the right candidate.This is a fantastic opportunity for a confident and resilient teacher with a strong understanding of the Year 1 curriculum and the ability to create a calm, structured learning environment.What the School NeedsThe successful candidate will ideally have:
- Proven experience teaching in Year 1
- Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to set and maintain clear boundaries
- A nurturing but assertive approach that helps pupils re‑engage positively with learning
- The confidence to adapt teaching to meet a range of learning needs
You will also be working in a class with a child who has higher‑level SEND needs and will be supported by a dedicated 1:1. Additionally, there are a small number of pupils who would benefit from consistent routines and clear expectations to support them back on track.Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, well‑structured lessons in line with the Year 1 curriculum
- Establish a positive, predictable classroom environment with strong routines
- Work collaboratively with support staff, including the 1:1 TA
- Support pupils with differing needs through effective differentiation
- Build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and parents
- Contribute to the wider school environment and team ethos
