EPUT is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist to join and lead on the Chelmer Ward based at the Derwent Centre Mental Health Unit.

Patients are admitted via the Home First team unless they are detained under the mental health act, when admission is directly onto a treatment ward.Chelmer ward is an acute inpatient female ward with 16 beds, which provides care to female patients aged 18-65. It is situated in the Derwent Centre, Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, West Essex and admits females with a various mental health presentations including psychoses, affective disorders, personality disorders and others. The multidisciplinary team includes a clinical psychologist, occupational therapists, a dietician, nurses, an activity coordinator and healthcare assistants. We have strong relations with other teams in the centre, such as home treatment team, liaison psychiatry team, a male inpatient ward which creates a wonderful and dynamic work environment and supports the team in ensuring continuity of care for our patients after discharge.

The post holder will have responsibility for the clinical care of those patients admitted to the in-patient unit on the ward. The post holder will also be expected to work closely with the team and the ward manager to ensure the provision of an effective service.

You must have full GMC registration and be on the Specialist Register, with an appropriate CCT or equivalent or be within six months of obtaining your CCT on the date of the AAC.

· Work closely with other consultant colleagues to ensure that the patient journey is as smooth as possible.

· Provide clinical leadership and actively liaise with general practitioners, psychiatrists, and other hospital specialists, statutory and non-statutory agencies, whenever relevant to the care and treatment of patients.

· Be committed to a multidisciplinary approach to care.

· Use evidence-based interventions at all times.

· Offer a consistent response to referrers/service users regardless of origin of the referral in a timely fashion.

· Offer an accurate diagnosis and timely interventions so that intensive treatment can be delivered to present chronicity and dependency on psychiatric services, in accordance with the recovery model.

· Attend Mental Health Act assessments as requested for relevant patients.

· Act as the Responsible Clinician for inpatients including attending Tribunals, as necessary.

· Participate in the development and maintenance of care programmes for patients.

· Supervise junior and middle-grade doctors in the team.

· Participate in the teaching programmes of the multidisciplinary team.

· Contribute to the collection of clinical information to ensure further service development and to enable audit.

· Work closely with consultant colleagues to contribute to the provision of appropriate Consultant cross cover for daytime, 9 am to 5 pm, (working days), and for periods of annual/study/special leave.

· Participate in clinical governance and teaching activities.

· Contribute to the day-to-day management and the overall service development agenda through appropriate involvement with managerial and clinical colleagues.
