The Fellow will be exposed to and trained in a full range of ablative and endovascular techniques, with training delivered by internationally recognised consultants.
The Fellow will be selected through a competitive application process, with an interview panel consisting of members of the IOUK Committee and the clinical supervisors from each centre.
Eligibility:
• Post-CCT in Radiology or dual-accredited in Radiology and Interventional Radiology• Registrar or consultant within the first three years post-CCT
• UK GMC registered
• UK training programme
LUFT provides an extensive portfolio of vascular and oncological treatments via four IR theatres across the two sites. In addition to a soon to be completed hybrid suite housing two theatres, using the latest Siemens Artis Zee and Artis Pheno systems.
LUFT acts as a tertiary centre for many oncology interventions such as TACE, portal vein embolisation, SIRT, ablations of lung, liver, kidney tumours. We are one of the largest TACE centres in the UK and provide access to all current approved ablation technologies (i.e. microwave, IRE and cryoablation).
In addition, we provide a wide range of other vascular and non-vascular interventions, such as PAE, UFE, trauma embolisations, AVM treatments, fistula work, PTCs amongst others.
Diagnostic radiology skills will be kept up to date with sessions dedicated to relevant vascular and oncological reporting. You will be directly supervised throughout your fellowship but with a view to fostering independent practice.
Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust comprises Aintree University Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital & Royal Liverpool University Hospital.
We are part of NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group, formed on 1 Nov 2024 from the coming together of LUHFT and Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust. The Group was born from a shared aim to improve the care we provide our patients.
UHLG is one of the largest employers in the region, with over 16,800 colleagues dedicated to caring for our communities - from birth and beyond.
For the 630,000 people across Merseyside, we are their local NHS. We provide general and emergency hospital care, alongside highly specialised regional services for more than two million people in the North West.
Aintree University Hospital is the single receiving site for adult major trauma patients in Cheshire and Merseyside and hosts a number of regional services including an award-winning stroke facility. Broadgreen Hospital is home to elective surgical, diagnostic and treatment services, together with specialist patient rehabilitation. Liverpool Women’s Hospital specialises in the health of women and babies, delivering over 7,200 babies in the UK’s largest single site maternity hospital each year. The Royal Liverpool University Hospital is the largest hospital in the country to provide inpatients with 100% single bedrooms and focuses on complex planned care and specialist services.

After appointment:
• The Fellow will complete six months of training in each centre.
• The Fellow will be expected to gain competency in a pre-agreed selection of IO procedures, with sign-off from the lead trainer in each centre.• These will include both transarterial and percutaneous techniques in the management of cancer.
• Disease-modifying techniques to be learned include, but are not limited to: percutaneous ablation, transarterial tumour embolisation, and radioembolisation.
• A full range of skills in supportive IO techniques, from biopsy to complex stenting, will also be included.
• Fellows will be expected to participate in audit and research as directed by the lead trainer in each centre, with the aim of presenting at an international conference.
• Applications will receive extra merit for a plan to deploy the skills acquired to set up new services or expand existing services.
The role will involve cross site working to take full advantage of the specialist services delivered at each site.
We anticipate at least 6 PAs will be dedicated to IR activities, with other PAs for reporting, doctor of the day commitments and SPA.
Applicants should hold full GMC registration and be within 6 months of achieving CCT in the 6 years RCR Interventional Radiology training scheme. Other equivalent radiology training experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis
