Applications are invited for the post of a Specialty Grade doctor at the East Suffolk and North Essex Foundation Trust.
The Departments of Oncology is within the ‘Oncology & Haematology Clinical Delivery Group’ of the ‘Cancer and Diagnostics’ Division.
The post holder will work according to an agreed job plan.
The post holder would be expected to support the cancer services across a wide range of tumour sites. However, if the candidate has a special interest in certain tumour sites, it could be considered as part of the job plan.
The job plan will be reviewed annually. It will cover all aspects of a Specialist Grade professional practice including clinical work, research and education. In addition, it will include personal objectives, details of their link to wider service objectives and details of the support required by the doctor to fulfil the job plan and the objectives.
10 PA’s will be offered. A minimum of 8.5 PA’s will be for direct patient care and 1.5 PA’s for SPA. Expected commitments will include:
Multi-disciplinary ward meeting
New patient clinics
One or more chemotherapy review clinics
One or more follow-up clinics
Support to Radiotherapy units and Chemotherapy day units
Ward consultations
Other ward rounds
Attendance at relevant site-specific MDTs
Audit, research, CPD, appraisal and revalidation

General
There is an excellent Postgraduate Medical Centre with a modern lecture theatre. The centre includes seminar rooms and a small but extensive library with very helpful staff on a site adjacent to Colchester Hospital. The Library supplies books, journals, some interactive software and access to electronic bibliographic databases and journals.
Time will be allowed for the appointee to attend meetings etc for the purposes of Continuing Medical Education (30 days over a 3 year period). The Trust will fund such CME related activities up to a local ceiling which is currently £700 per annum.
The post-holder will be required to participate in programmes for teaching medical students, training junior doctors and in clinical examinations. It is expected that this will be an integral part of everyday clinical activity.
The post-holder will be required to keep himself/herself fully up-to-date with their relevant area of practice and to be able to demonstrate this to the satisfaction of the Trust. Professional or study leave will be granted at the discretion of the Trust, in line with the prevailing Terms and Conditions of Service, to support appropriate study, postgraduate training activities, relevant CME courses and other appropriate personal development needs.
