Summary

Are you passionate about supporting people at risk of homelessness and helping them find the right way forward?

If you’re someone who is passionate about helping people at a time of housing crisis, has a strong understanding of homelessness legislation, and can communicate with empathy, professionalism and confidence, this could be a great opportunity for you.

What’s the role all about?

As a Housing Advice Officer, you will provide a highquality first point of contact triage and advice service for people who are homeless or threatened with homelessness. You will deal with customers facetoface, by telephone and by email, offering timely, accurate and supportive housing advice. The role is key in ensuring people receive the right information, intervention and support at the earliest opportunity.

What will your day look like?

You will carry out initial assessments for customers approaching the service for housing and homelessness advice, making appropriate inquiries to understand their housing and support needs. Using relevant legislation, statutory guidance and local policy, you will determine whether individuals may be owed a Prevention or Relief Duty under Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996, making sameday statutory decisions where appropriate.

You will provide comprehensive housing advice regardless of whether a statutory duty is owed, ensure customers receive written advice, and proactively work with internal teams and partner organisations to prevent or relieve homelessness wherever possible. Accurate case recording and data entry will also form a core part of the role.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with a strong working knowledge of homelessness and housing legislation and experience of conducting service user assessments and interviews. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to work confidently with people in challenging circumstances, and demonstrate strong organisational, problemsolving and decisionmaking abilities.

Experience of working with homeless people or vulnerable adults, along with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, will help you succeed in this role.

Why join us?

Joining our team as a Housing Advice Officer means playing a vital role in supporting people at one of the most challenging points in their lives. You’ll have the opportunity to make a real and lasting difference by helping individuals and families understand their housing rights, access the right support, and prevent or resolve homelessness wherever possible. This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same, offering meaningful frontline work, strong collaboration with colleagues and partner organisations, and the chance to apply your knowledge and skills to achieve positive outcomes for our communities. If you’re motivated by purposedriven work and want a role where your expertise and empathy truly matter, this is an opportunity to grow, develop and make an impact.
