Summary
Stag Lodge Stables offers horse riding lessons in London, as well as courses and activities for children and adults of all ages from three years upwards. Based across two sites, we have a busy hacking centre on the edge of Richmond Park, a riding school with multiple arenas, and a 5-star Livery Yard. In total we have over 70 horses and ponies, as well as a fabulous team who work to deliver the very best service for both clients and horses.
This role will be working on our Livery Yard as a Groom. Reporting into the Livery Yard Manager, this role will support in the day-to-day running of the yard.
The job is varied and the possibilities are endless. It doesn’t matter too much if you cannot ride well, we will teach you, however some horse handling experience is essential.
A few of the daily duties:
Mucking out
Tacking up
Grooming
Turning out / bringing in
Exercising ponies
The apprentice will take part in training rides that the riding school side of the business plan throughout the week. The apprentice may also be asked at times (when the riding school is at its busiest) to help with bringing horses in/out for lessons and leading younger riders in group lessons.
Desired skills and qualities
Some horse handling experience must be shown at application
You must be prepared for physical work in all weather
A happy smiley disposition is vital
You should also be hard working, reliable, enthusiastic and get on with all sorts of people
Desired qualifications
Maths and English grade C or 4 at GCSE or equivalent is desired but not essential
Applicants must not already hold a level 2 or higher in horse care
Future prospects
Progression onto a senior equine groom apprenticeship for the right applicant and future employment
We have apprentices who has been with us for many years.

We have several apprentices already working at Stag Lodge Stables so you will be in good company! With over 70 horses and ponies we have great riding opportunities as part of your training – whether you have ridden a lot previously or have very little riding experience. For the right person, this role will allow you to learn and become skilled in an exciting area of our business.
Training
Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
The applicant will be working towards a Level 2 Equine Groom Apprenticeship.
The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and onsite visits throughout the apprenticeship.
The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship.
