Hays Education are delighted to offer a full-time HLTA / Outdoor Learning Instructor role based at a specialist SEN school in Hastings. If you are a reflective, adaptable and proactive practitioner, this role could be an excellent opportunity for you.


About the School


This forward-thinking SEN school in Hastings provides a nurturing and structured environment for pupils with a range of additional needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, sensory processing difficulties, and moderate learning needs. The school places a strong emphasis on holistic development, using outdoor learning and physical activity as key tools to support emotional regulation, confidence, teamwork, and social communication. Staff work collaboratively to ensure pupils feel safe, supported, and motivated to engage in learning both inside and outside the classroom.


The Role


As an HLTA / Outdoor Learning Instructor, you will:


* Develop and plan structured outdoor learning sessions tailored to individual and group needs.
* Deliver engaging outdoor activities, including physical education, team-building exercises, and experiential learning.
* Support pupils to develop social skills, communication, confidence, and positive peer interactions.
* Use outdoor learning as a tool to support emotional regulation and positive behaviour. * Work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to align outdoor provision with EHCP target.
* Lead small groups and provide targeted interventions where appropriate.
* Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating outdoor learning environment.


Candidate Requirements


We are looking for someone who is:


* A qualified HLTA or an experienced SEN practitioner working at HLTA level (unqualified teachers or those with equivalent experience will be considered).
* Experienced working with children with SEN, ideally within a specialist or inclusive setting.
* Confident in planning and delivering outdoor learning activities.
* From a PE, sports, outdoor education, or physical activity background (highly desirable).
* Passionate about team-building, social development, and inclusive learning.
* Patient, resilient, and proactive, with strong behaviour management skills.
* A strong team player who builds positive relationships with pupils and staff.
