Summary

Dore Village Kids is a brand new after-school provision, serving children from Dore Primary School. We are looking for an experienced playworker to provide high-quality care and play opportunities for children aged 4-11.

This role is term-time only and the working hours are 3.00-5.30pm. Ideally, the successful candidate would work five days a week, but this can be negotiated.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
• Deliver structured play activities to groups of children.
• Supervise and support children during unstructured play activities.
• Escort children from Dore Primary School to the club venue.
• Use positive behaviour strategies to ensure children are happy and secure.
• Support children with Special Educational Needs
• Prepare and serve healthy snacks in accordance with hygiene regulations.
• Deputise for the Manager in rare cases of absence (there will be a pay uplift).
• Build positive relationships with parents/carers.
• Maintain a safe environment and record any incidents.
• Report safeguarding/child protection concerns to the Manager.
• Undertake relevant training and attend occasional staff meetings.
• Administer first aid when necessary.


Person Specification
Essential qualities
• Experience of working with 4- to 11-year-olds
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to work as part of a small team
• Ability to use initiative and plan “in the moment”
• Positive “can do” attitude
• Understanding of the importance of play in children’s development
• Understanding of equal opportunities
• Understanding of how to maintain a safe environment for children

Desirable qualities
• Level 2/3 childcare qualification or equivalent
• Appropriate child protection training (training will be provided if needed)
• Current 12-hour Paediatric First Aid Certificate (training can be provided)
• Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (training will be provided if needed)
• Experience of working with children with SEND
