What You’ll Do
● Provide high-quality technical support to staff and students across the School and wider Faculty.
● Design and manufacture research test rigs, components, and assemblies for tribology and rail applications.
● Deliver hands-on training and demonstrations in the safe and effective use of laboratory equipment.
● Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety and quality standards, producing risk and COSHH assessments where required.
● Support the ongoing operation, maintenance, and improvement of the School’s laboratory and workshop facilities.
● Work closely with colleagues in other technical teams to deliver reliable, innovative, and service-focused technical support.
About You
You’ll have a minimum of a BTEC/NVQ Level 3 qualification or ONC/OND in a relevant engineering discipline, supported by a formal apprenticeship or equivalent experience. You’ll bring strong, hands-on engineering expertise, including:

Membership of a professional body (e.g., RSciTech, EngTech, RAnTech, ICTTech) or a willingness to work towards registration is desirable.
Why Join Us
This is an excellent opportunity to join a forward-thinking technical team supporting internationally recognised research in tribology and rail engineering. You will work in a well-equipped, collaborative environment where innovation and professional development are actively encouraged.
At Sheffield, you’ll be part of a university that values excellence, inclusivity, and innovation providing opportunities to grow your career while contributing to meaningful research that impacts the real world.
