Summary

Hays are currently working with a SEMH Secondary School in Blackley who are seeking a dynamic, passionate, and skilled Humanities Teacher to join their dedicated team to cover maternity leave, with the possibility of a permanent role. You will deliver high‑quality lessons across History, Geography and/or Religious Education, primarily at
Key Stage 3, with some Religious Education lessons for Key Stage 4.


This school is a small, specialist provision for young people with SEMH needs. They offer a therapeutic, safe, and nurturing learning environment designed to help pupils build confidence, explore learning, and realise their full potential. The curriculum is designed to meet the needs of neurodiverse learners, with cutting‑edge interventions that support progress and wellbeing.


This school supports pupils with a range of needs, including:

  • Emotional regulation difficulties
  • Neurodiverse profiles (e.g. ASD, ADHD)
  • Social and relational development needs
  • Mental health-related vulnerabilities

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Teach engaging, inclusive humanities lessons tailored to the needs of learners with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
  • Coordinate humanities within the school and collaborate with specialists across the wider federation.
  • Contribute to the delivery of PSHCE and the emotional curriculum for your assigned form group.
  • Develop high-interest activities that bring humanities to life for our learners.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of assessment strategies to support progress.


What We're Looking For:

We welcome applications from both experienced teachers and Early Career Teachers. You should:

  • Ideally have excellent subject knowledge in humanities, or ability to pick up curriculum knowledge quickly
  • Hold QTS
  • Hold up-to-date Team Teach training (desirable)
  • Able to deliver fun and engaging lessons to learners with additional needs
  • Be committed to improving outcomes for all learners
  • Understand SEMH needs and adopt a relational, supportive approach
  • Value high‑quality planning, preparation and marking
  • Be ready to work collaboratively within a small, specialist team
