Summary


An opportunity has arisen for a enhanced clinical fellow post in endoscopy at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. The trust has 3 endoscopy units across 3 sites including the new Heatherwood Hospital which opened in March 2022 and was recently awarded accreditation by NHS England’s Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) programme.

We are seeking to appoint an Advanced Endoscopy Fellow on a fixed-term contract for 12 months. This fellowship would be suitable for a Gastroenterologist who is reaching the end of their specialist training and wishes to develop a specialist interest in Endoscopy. The post holder will be part of the wider gastroenterology team at Frimley Health NHS Foundation trust consisting of 18 gastroenterologists and 5 clinical endoscopists working across 3 sites and 11 procedure rooms. Opportunities will be available for training in advanced endoscopic techniques. These include, oesophageal RFA (HALO), upper GI EMR, single balloon enteroscopy, capsule endoscopy, colonic EMR and dilatations. Opportunities to learn full thickness resection is also available.

The appointee will be expected to be competent in upper GI endoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy and in addition to attending designated training lists; they will be expected to undertake service provision lists during the week.

The exact mix of endoscopy activity will depend on the previous experience and training needs of the appointee. Service lists will be allocated in a flexible manner by the clinical or training lead. There may be the possibility to participate in the GI bleed on-call rota to gain experience of acute GI bleeds where the rota allows. There are no general medical on-call duties and no fixed ward commitments.

To allow the post holder to gain further experience in advanced endoscopy techniques. This position would be suitable for someone nearing the completion of their training, as part of an Out of Programme Experience (OOPE). The post holder will be part of the endoscopy training team and may be required to participate in departmental training sessions. The department is currently working towards establishing JAG‑accredited courses, and the post holder will contribute to their delivery.

• The post holder will be expected to providefour service lists per weekas part of endoscopy backfill, allocated flexibly. One of these lists will be anin‑patientlist.
• The post holder will havetwo dedicated training listsin advanced endoscopy, tailored to their training needs.
• Two sessionsof endoscopy referral triage and gastroenterology referral triage.
• One audit/project session.
• One admin session.
