An opportunity has arisen to join our fabulous Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) team at Sherwood Forest Hospitals. If you are a Band 5 Registered Nurse with an interest in acute or emergency care, then SDEC might be the perfect place for you.

We see a cohort of patients who present to the hospital acutely unwell, with medical conditions that can often be investigated, diagnosed, and treated on the same day.

Patients come to the SDEC unit from the front‑door stream/triage process, as well as directly from GPs, EMAS, and other primary care services.

Nobody wants to spend more time in hospital than necessary, and in SDEC we are able to offer, within a single day, the same high‑quality diagnostics, treatment, and care that patients may historically have received during a short admission.

This approach brings enormous benefits to our patients and also helps improve and maintain patient flow through ED, EAU, and SSU, enabling other patients to access these areas more easily when they need them most.

We can offer a unique insight into, and understanding of, the care and treatment of a wide variety of acute and emergency medical presentations. Our work is varied, fast‑paced, and challenging. It requires strong assessment skills and the ability to react and respond effectively to the demands of emergency care.

Same Day Emergency Care is the future of acute services for a particular group of patients, and our patients truly appreciate what we are able to offer them here.
