Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic HCPC State Registered Biomedical Scientist to join the Clinical Biochemistry section within our busy and friendly Blood Sciences department. This post is offered as a12-month secondment/fixed-term opportunity.
The successful candidate will be primarily based at the Bedford site, with the flexibility to work at the Luton & Dunstable site as required to meet service needs. This role provides an excellent training opportunity to develop specialist knowledge and support ongoing professional development.
Upon completion of training, the post holder will be expected to participate in the 24/7 shift rota across both sites, where required.
The department holdsUKAS accreditationand is approved forIBMS/HCPC training. It is also one of a limited number of organisations accredited by the National School of Healthcare Science for Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, and Transfusion Science training within the clinical sciences.

As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist within the Clinical Biochemistry department, the post holder will be required to:
• Maintain consistently high standards of work, motivate colleagues, and act as a professional role model.
• Participate in all aspects of departmental activity, particularly where specialist expertise is required, and perform tests and assays in a methodical and scientific manner to a high level of accuracy and precision.
• Support departmental laboratory senior staff in the implementation and delivery of a cohesive and effective service, working closely with the Clinical Lead for the department.
• Deputise for the departmental laboratory senior as required in their absence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To perform as a HCPC Registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist [BMS] assisting in the delivery of the department services.
2. To assist the departmental laboratory senior in the implementation and delivery of a cohesive service, in conjunction the clinical lead of the department.
3. To implement the quality policy for the department including the agreed quality objectives.
4. To contribute to the implementation of UKAS standards for the department using the Pathology Quality Management System as established, to fulfill the quality circles and audit inherent to the ISO 15189 standards of compliance.
5. To deputise in the absence of the departmental laboratory senior when required to do so.
