Mechanical Engineer (3-Month Contract to Permanent)

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join a high-profile site in Saffron Walden. This role begins as a 3-month contract, offering a fantastic opportunity to prove your expertise with a clear view to transitioning into a permanent position.
You will be joining a leading facilities management provider known for maintaining world-class standards across data centers and prestigious commercial facilities.
The RoleYour primary focus will be ensuring all environmental conditions and critical building systems are maintained to the highest standards. You will handle both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive/breakdown works across various mechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance & Fault Finding: Execute PPM tasks and reactive repairs on HVAC, Hot & Cold-Water Systems, and Generators.

System Diagnostics: Utilise graphical information and alarm data to identify and remedy plant faults swiftly.

Safety & Compliance: Prepare Method Statements and Risk Assessments (RAMS) and operate under a Permit to Work system.

Sub-contractor Management: Supervise and monitor external specialists while they are on-site.

Reporting: Maintain accurate records via a Computer Based Maintenance system (e.g., Maximo) and ensure all paperwork is submitted promptly.

General Upkeep: Ensure plant rooms are kept clean, tidy, and secure, while maintaining a professional image at all times.
The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver with a strong background in commercial or critical environments.

Qualifications: Formally trained in a mechanical engineering discipline (HVAC/Plumbing) to City & Guilds Level 3 or NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent).

Technical Skills: Proven knowledge of HVAC and water systems is essential. Basic electrical knowledge is highly desirable.

Professionalism: A customer-centric approach with the ability to build strong relationships with clients and team members.
