HOURS: Full Time 37.5 hours per week
SALARY: Up to £17 per hour

Who We Are

United Response is a registered charity, founded in 1973. Our mission is to ensure that individuals with learning disabilities, mental, or physical support needs have the opportunity to live life to the fullest. We support around 2,000 people across more than 300 locations in England and Wales, with over 3,600 staff members.

ROC College, a part of United Response, is a specialist college providing person-centred, community-based teaching and learning within Cornwall, Devon, and Somerset. We work with young people aged 16–25 with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking an experienced Functional Skills Tutor to deliver high-quality Maths and English teaching to students with additional needs. You will support learners to achieve formal qualifications and develop essential skills for work and independent living.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • At least one year’s experience teaching Functional Skills (Entry Level to Level 2)
    A Level 4 Teaching Qualification (e.g. CTTLS or equivalent)
    Experience in post-16 education and understanding of Ofsted requirements
    Strong organisational and communication skills
    Experience working with learners with disabilities or additional needs
    Ability to deliver engaging 1 to 1 and group sessions
    Confidence managing a caseload of students and tailoring learning to individual needs
    A flexible and creative approach to teaching
    A full driving licence and access to a vehicle

Experience supporting learners with learning disabilities, mental health needs, or physical disabilities is highly desirable.

What to Expect

As a Functional Skills Tutor at ROC College, you will:

  • Deliver Maths and English teaching on a 1 to 1 and group basis
    Support students to achieve Functional Skills and GCSE qualifications
    Assess learner needs and develop personalised learning plans
    Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to support student outcomes
    Maintain accurate records of learner progress and achievement
    Embed Maths and English across wider curriculum areas
    Support colleagues with planning and delivery
    Contribute to achievement targets and quality improvement activities
    Act as an ambassador for ROC College within the community
