Summary
The successful applicant will be working in an integrated team of 12 consultants, including academic, regional, and neurosurgical colleagues. The post will focus on the provision of surgery for spinal tumour and complex adult deformity but also contribute to the provision of adult elective and emergency spinal surgery for the population of the Thames Valley region. This will involve inpatient and day case surgery, outpatient clinics, and currently a 1 in 10 on call commitment as part of a 24/7 on call service. A candidate with a demonstrable interest in research and service quality improvement will be of particular interest to the department. The Spinal Surgery Department is currently supported by two specialist Registrars, five Spinal Fellows, three Specialist physiotherapists, three junior trainees (FY2 level), specialist bracing/casting team, occupational and physiotherapy/hydrotherapy services. The unit has access to Adult/Paediatric ITU/HDU facilities and 24 hour radiology services including MRI/CT. There are dedicated Spinal theatres daily on the John Radcliffe and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre sites. There are regular weekly Adult and Paediatric MDTs. Audit and clinical governance involvement is expected. The unit has a strong research and educational background which the successful candidate will be encouraged to contribute to.
