Summary
The Trust is seeking a consultant forensic psychiatrist to join Broadmoor Hospital The vacancy has arisen as the result of another consultant leaving. The successful applicant will be the Responsible Clinician for 15 patients on an increased support and assertive treatment (ISAT) ward. From time to time the specific attachments may be varied to meet the needs of the service, in discussion with the consultant.
The current consultant (RC) establishment at Broadmoor Hospital is 12 Whole Time Equivalents (WTEs). There are also two part-time (0.2 PA) Consultant Psychotherapists in post. A part time General Practitioner is also in post.
This post will enjoy support from a resident doctor. In the event of a resident post not being filled, we will provide a specialty grade doctor or a Trust Grade doctor.
The Hospital has high quality physical healthcare provision at the dedicated Healthcare Centre led by a General Practitioner (Dr Jonathan Bickford) and his colleagues. Close links also exist with local general Hospitals providing full access to medical, surgical and other specialists and includes a regular diabetic clinic within the Hospital.
The Post Holder will be responsible for the care of 15 patients on an increased support and assertive treatment (ISAT) ward. Patients on the ISAT wards will generally require more intensive support and more likely to be displaying behavioural disturbance. The Post Holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, consisting of a ward manager, ward nursing staff, a clinical or forensic psychologist, a resident doctor, a social worker, a security liaison nurse and an occupational therapist. The Post Holder will be expected to provide leadership to the Clinical Team and co-ordination of the Care Plan in relation to each individual patient within the framework of the Care Programme Approach.
As part of the Clinical Team standards within the hospital, it is expected that the Post Holder will see his or her ISAT patients regularly, in addition to Clinical Team Meetings.
The Post Holder will be responsible for carrying out administrative duties in relation to the care of his/her patients including completion of reports to the First-Tier Tribunal (Mental Health), Annual Statutory Reports to the Ministry of Justice, and other statutory and non-statutory reports within the required timescales. In addition, the Post Holder will be expected to liaise with other forensic units in relation to their patients.
